Alphamax update


I am getting the 'ol Alphamax dialed in with broadheads really early this year! I drew a NV mule deer tag in a unit I've never stepped foot in. I have minimal time to allocate towards this hunt, won't be able to scout it and really have not found anyone really who spent much time there... sound like a sleeper unit to me! I am CrossFitting 5 days a week and staying active on the weekends. I plan on conducting the following hunts this year:
  • Nevada Mule Deer (northern unit) AUG. 2nd - 7th
  • Idaho September Weekend Warrior Elk Hunting - every F, Sat, & Sun.
  • Montana October Elk Hunt Oct. 1st - Oct. 8th with Bowhunter Magazine TV
  • Washington November Whitetail Nov. 25th - 31st
Here is the woman I am marrying in less than 3 weeks, is there any question why?

Dear Dan,

Sorry not a great pic. I know I promised you a pic. Not a monster but really made me proud. Hope all is well. Thanks for all you have done, this would not have been possible without your guidance and the confidence you gave me. I lost 42 pounds. From 222 to 180, and body fat went from 25% to around 12%. Just cannot thank you eneugh.

Bear Action


Last weekend we caught two bears on film, one small blackie and one medium sized blonde-cinn bear. I will probably try to get an arrow in this boar this weekend. I have great video, great trail-cam shots, and hope to bring it all together soon. Here's the workouts for the week...

# 1 - Deadlift 225lbs, Muscle-ups, Front Squats 135lbs, HSPU...21-15-9

# 2 - 10 Rounds for time of 12 burpees and 12 pull-ups

# 3 - "Christine" 500m row, deadlift (body weight) x 12 reps, box jumps 24" x 21 reps...3 rounds

# 4 - Run 5K (hilly terrain)

Last Week of Training...


Two weeks out from the day of comp... We'll hammer out this last week of brutal training and taper one week out. Sleep is critical at this point. I have a massage scheduled mid-week to break up the tissue and enhance recovery. Nutrition is pretty much like this...first half of the day my zone meals have 3 blocks of carbs per meal... roughly (27g), and the last three meals of the day are 2 blocks of protein with double or triple the fat (12-15g) per meal. My fat is coming from peanut butter, cashew butter, and avacados. My favorite meal at this point has been old fashioned oatmeal with 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein from EAS...Yummy! Here is the line-up:

Monday 5/4/09 - Workout # 1 - For time:

Row 500m
30 Burpees
10 Shoulder-to-Overhead (Men: 165#) ...Rest 3 Hours
Workout # 2 -
10 minutes as many reps as possible of muscle-ups & 185lbs power clean.
Tuesday 5/5/09 - 21 - 15 - 9 OHS (135lbs) and 25 - 50 - 75 Double Unders
Wednesday 5/6/09 - 155lbs Thrusters - 30 reps for time...and go get a massage
Thursday - REST DAY
Friday - NorCal Sunday Workout...details to come...should be brutal
Saturday - 5x4x3x2x1 Snatch (5 - are hang, 4 - power w/no split, 3 - squat snatch, 2 and 1 with split)
